Perseverance: Cynthia Pettway’s story
What if you were your grandma’s first grandchild to graduate high school, but you were in the hospital on graduation day. What would you do? That’s exactly the predicament Cynthia Pettway was in. How could she walk across the stage on that special day? This story will show you perseverance pays off.
“Pettway virtually graduated alongside her classmates at Leflore High School this week by rolling an iPad across the stage. With a two-way video stream displayed on the screen, she was able to remotely control the robot from the hospital.
The gadget was even dressed in a little cap and gown.”
Who got the idea for this amazing use of technology? Stephanie Maddox works in the school system and she contacted people at the hospital where Cynthia is a patient. At first, Cynthia didn’t seem to like the idea, but she eventually warmed to it.
Cynthia and forty of her family members watched in amazement from her hospital room. Tears streamed down Cynthia’s face. Imagine how proud she must’ve felt. Now you see evidence that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Cynthia and her family were not cheated of the day she always dreamed about. Sometimes the most amazing things can happen if you do something out of the ordinary. Isn’t this a great story that shows what can happen if you persevere? In my experience, perseverance has been the key to success. I hope many more of Cynthia’s dreams come true.
