beauty:Julia Kubin

Do you believe inner beauty is more important than physical beauty?We often put too much emphasis on outer beauty. It’s one of the reasons bullying is  common today. What can we do to change that? Julia Kubin, from Morristown, New Jersey, has a great idea to spread her message against bullying. Do you know anyone who talks about the importance of inner beauty the way Julia Kubin does?

Here’s more of Julia’s thoughts;

As CBS 2’s Scott Rapoport reported, for a couple of hours once a week, the eighth-grader can be found on street corners in her hometown holding up signs targeting pedestrians and drivers — total strangers — with her message about beauty.

Julia calls what she does “Sidewalk Smiles.”

It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, tall or small.

“Beauty is anything that you are,” Julia said. She continued, “I want to better the community through random acts of kindness,” said Julia, an honor student at Frelinghuysen Middle School and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

“I think it’s more than just ‘You’re beautiful,’” mom Jill Kubin said. “I think it’s somebody taking the time out to tell them that. And it’s somebody pointing out a message that maybe they don’t hear every day.”

Don’t you think Julia is a remarkable young lady? She’s improving lives of young people, one at a time.  She has hundreds of followers on twitter. Julia’s efforts are making an impact. What if she inspires others to work against bullying? Keep up the good work, Julia.

If you encounter bullying at school what can you do? One solution could be to talk to your teacher. School officials are interested in helping combat bullying so that could be a good place to start.  You might also mention the situation to your parents. Perhaps they will advise you or talk to school officials on your behalf. If you know the person using bullying behavior, you might speak to them. Maybe you’ll discover the reason this person is acting like a bully. He/she may want to attract attention. Good behavior can attract attention as well. What do you think?
