kid’s books: random kindness
You may know I write kid’s books which help promote things like kindness, friendship and helping others. Have you ever chosen to help someone with a random act of kindness? What if you did something that changed a life? My kid’s books Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes and Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog promote these great characteristics.
If you’re looking for an amazing story of random kindness, consider the story of Chauncy Black and Matt White. Chauncy regularly walked to the “rich people’s Kroger’s” in Memphis, Tennessee, searching for people who might buy food for he and his “Mom,” Barbara. Actually, Barbara is Chauncy’s grandma. While in Kroger’s, Chauncy approached Matt White. He asked him to buy a box of doughnuts. In exchange, Chauncy offered to help Matt carry his bags to his car. Rather than only buying doughnuts, Matt went on “shopping spree.” He bought chips, melons, pizza, vegetables, soap and toothbrushes for Chauncy and Barbara. Matt learned Chauncy was a “straight A student, despite his level of poverty.
Matt offered to give fifteen year-old Chauncy a ride home. He was stunned to see the inside of the house. The only furniture was a couple of lamps, sleeping bags on the floor, and a couch. The refrigerator was empty.
Matt was so moved by Chauncy’s situation he posted the story on his Facebook page. Many people shared it. After that, he started a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $250. Within hours, they had exceeded the goal. People were offering new furniture and even a job for Chauncy. After about two weeks, Matt White made his GoFundMe page public. Once the page was public Barbara began being harassed by estranged family members so plans were made for them to move to a safer place and other precautions were taken. He quickly raised ten times the original goal.
Isn’t this an amazing story? Chauncy and Barbara may soon have a new house and Matt considers he has “A new family.” With all the depressing news you hear these days, isn’t it great to read such a heartwarming story? Chauncy and his grandma are enjoying a new life because of one man’s kindness.
