Kid’s chapter books: talent

When I write kid’s chapter books, I love to show the characters as good examples. Sometimes, the characters develop talents that surprised them. I think children should always be encouraged to develop their natural skills.  A young man named Malvyn Lai is a great example of someone who’s using his abilities and having fun. Malvyn is just nine years old and he’s been playing piano since he was four. Isn’t that amazing? Here’s what Malvyn had to say:

““I just love piano and I don’t think about it; I just play. “I just move my fingers and it works.”  Malvyn  loves playing piano, but are you wondering if he has a favorite? He loves Mozart most of all because of “the way it makes him feel.”

Malvyn tried his best to convince his parents to let him take piano lessons when he was four.

““I really liked the way the piano sounded like really grand, so I asked my mom if I could play at age 4, but they said I was too young. Imagine how disappointed he was. But Malvyn didn’t give up on his dream. Nearly a year later, his parents agreed to let him start studying the piano.

“His instructor, Irina Bendetsky, said that at the time, he couldn’t even reach the pedals, but he was already playing the classics.

“Melvin is very special as a boy and as a musician. He is a musician already. I can name him that,” said Bendetsky.

What would you say if I told you that Malvyn has already played at Carnegie Hall five times?  He has also won many awards. Apparently, Malvyn is an “old soul” because here’s what he said about his career so far:

“I like it now even more than when I was a kid, because I keep practicing and get to higher levels and can play more beautiful pieces … and deliver the message of the music to other people,”

Clearly, you can tell that Malvyn has remarkable talent and he’s having a great time sharing it with others. In my kid’s chapter books  Charlene the Star, Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes, and Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog, the animal characters all work hard to develop their talents. Hattie the chicken finds she’s very good at organizing events. In the third of my kid’s chapter books, Charlene the Star, this beautiful red horse finds she has no love for racing. She is surprised by the career path that suits her. My kid’s chapter books Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes and Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog, the characters work together to solve problems. These  kid’s chapter books will be entertaining for children, parents and teachers.
